Baroque

In art history, the term "Baroque" refers to a period of art history that lasted approximately from the late 16th century to the late 18th century. This period was characterized by opulent, decorative styles, emotional intensity and dramatic expression. When it comes to Latin America, the Baroque style extended during the colonial period, when European influences hit the region's art and culture.

The Baroque style in Latin America was characterized by a synthesis of European artistic traditions and local, indigenous influences. While artists in Latin America adopted the baroque stylistic elements of the European colonial powers, they also integrated local cultural and craft elements as well as the influences of the indigenous population.
